My dog, Jess, loves playing in the Big River, which meanders through the park. The moderate terrain and rocky creek crossings in the park's trails make for a good focused hike, but not technical or requiring specific gear. The park also has a renovated swimming pool opened from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Kayaking and tubing are popular water activities and concessions are available at the park. Did I mention that there are petroglyphs to see here? This place is full of history.A few noteworthy campgrounds with good hiking within 175 miles of St. Louis, Missouri: `Eldon Hazlet State Park` in Carlyle, Illinois, `Hamilton County Fish and Wildlife Area` in McLeansboro, Illinois, and 'Pere Marquette State Park' in Grafton, Illinois.Southern Illinois boast magnificent natural areas of cliffs and rock formations. Garden of the Gods, Tunnel Hill, and Fern Cliff State Park offer a little more technical trails than other places I have mentioned.Let me help you plan a great trip!Other things to note
+You may bring pets with prior approval and purchase of Outdoorsy's $69 interior insurance. Pets may not be left unattended in trailer or at trailer site. Please consider that anytime something could malfunction and your pet may experience deadly interior conditions. Proof of pets in the camper without interior damage protection insurance will forfeit your entire deposit.+You will need a trailer brake controller installed prior to pick up if towing, if not I cannot handoff and you will be charged appropriate fees. You do not need towing experience (I believe in you!) and you do not need special tools.+You will need 30 amp electrical service for air conditioning, camper ACs do not work without it.+You will need to empty and flush the Grey and Black tanks at your campground, if not I will deduct $75 from the Security Deposit.+You will need to Leave No Trace of your visit, cleaning supplies provided, if not I will deduct $75 from the Security Deposit. Do not clean the exterior without prior approval. Decal damage may occur and you will forfeit your entire deposit.+You may not smoke or burn candles in the unit, or access the roof. Clear indicators of violation will result i a forfeiture of your entire security deposit.+Leaving doors, vents, and/or windows open when the air conditioner is on (goes for fridge/freezer, too) will make it difficult if not impossible to cool the interior. Cooling occurs when moisture is removed from the air.+A safety feature may kick out the breaker if you simultaneously use two heat producing, small appliances, like a microwave and a toaster. You can get past this by plugging one of them into the red extension cord, then plug directly into the post, instead of plugging into a camper receptacle. Another way to avoid this from happening is to consciously be aware not to use two appliances simultaneously.Campground reservations fill quickly.

Frequently asked questions
Q.
What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
A.
Your convenience is my business. What can I do for you? I keep the Happy Hiker Roaming Home ready to roll, so last minute bookings and deliveries, like maybe weather has moved in and is threatening to ruin your trip, are completely an option!
Q.
How do you back in?
A.
When learning to tow, my son and his dad used toy trucks and boats with trailers to help me visualize the entire process of backing in. This really helped me. Used to be the "pros" would see me coming to my site, "single gal with kid" and want to help. They shout out things about turning the wheel, throw up a few hand signals, pair up with a beer buddy to discuss it, all so anxiety inducing. Single axle are harder to handle than double axle. Impressed, now they ask me to park it for them. ;)
Q.
Are there any special tricks and tips that would help with operating the RV easily?
A.
1) Keeping doors and windows closed on anything you want to keep cold is necessary. RV units work by condensing the moisture out of the unit. 2) Save fuel by only packing what supplies you know you will use. 3) Backing up and setting up in the dark is tricky, try to arrive at your destination at least 90 minutes before sundown.
Q.
Do I use my car insurance for this coverage?
A.
No, you purchase the daily rental premium based on your choices, ranging from $21-$34 for the Happy Hiker Roaming Home. Keeping my cost low helps you feel comfortable staying within your daily budget.
