3.0Review of Kevin’s 2022 Keystone Hideout (8-day rental) We rented Kevin’s 2022 Keystone Hideout for 8 days at King of the Hammers. Kevin delivered the trailer, set it up for us, and even included his generator for free, which was appreciated. He gave us a quick walkthrough of the RV and then headed out. The walkthrough was very fast, and that led to some confusion later. While explaining the RV panel and the electrical, gray water, and black water systems, Kevin mentioned there were two gray tanks and two black tanks and showed us how to check “tank 1” and “tank 2” for each. Both my wife and I heard this clearly. Later, we found out there is actually only one gray tank and one black tank. This may have been a lack of clarification, but it caused confusion once we were using the trailer. We also had trouble getting the fridge to start and stay running for more than 24 hours. This could have been user error, but with food on the line and no easy way to troubleshoot, we didn’t want to risk it and ended up using our personal fridge instead. Another issue was gray tank capacity. This is something I should have researched more ahead of time. The specs I’m referencing are from online sources, not the listing, and they are: Fresh water: 60 gallons Gray water: 38 gallons Black water: 38 gallons The gray tank filled and eventually started overflowing from the breather. When I contacted Kevin asking if there was a mechanical way to switch tanks, that’s when it was clarified there was only one gray tank. He mentioned, “sorry, I thought the gray tank was bigger than 38 gallons for some reason,” and suggested dumping a few gallons to the ground to hold us over, which isn’t ideal or legal. One thing that would be extremely useful for renters, especially for off-grid trips, would be a small “how-to” or quick reference guide for the major RV systems. A simple booklet covering things like the electrical panel, fridge operation, tank capacities and monitoring, generator use, and common troubleshooting would help avoid confusion and make renters feel much more confident after a fast walkthrough. Overall, Kevin was friendly and helpful upfront, and the delivery plus the free generator were appreciated. Clearer explanations during the walkthrough, accurate information about the tanks, and better guidance on the RV systems would have made the experience smoother, especially for a longer off-grid trip.
