RecommendationsRenters have taken the BossLady to many beautiful locations, mainly in in Oregon and Washington, but as far away as San Francisco, CA! A favorite loop for renters is to head east toward Mt. Hood/Hood River, then south to Crater Lake National Park, west to the Oregon coast, then north back to Portland. That said, we'd encourage you to explore some less travelled routes and find your own unique experience. Possibilities include the Elkhorn Range and Eagle Cap wilderness in NE Oregon, the Painted Hills/Fossil/John Day in Central Oregon, or (for a true wilderness experience) the Alvord Desert, Malheur Wildlife Reserve and Steens Mountains in desolate SE Oregon. We love to see where the BossLady ends up!As owners, we've taken the BossLady on week-long ski safaris in Washington and Idaho, explored the Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, communed with forest giants in northern California's Redwood region, and had many memorable weekend trips in Oregon and Washington.Other things to notePreferred pick-up hours - 3 pm to 6pm, The orientation and handoff typically takes 30-60 minutes.Preferred drop off hours - 8 am to 11 am. The return process typically takes 15-30 minutes,If you can't pickup and/or drop off during the preferred times please let us know before you book - we both work full time and need to make sure we can accommodate your schedule.Absolutely no smoking (or leaving butts) in the van! Please do not cook bacon or fish (or anything else that is too smelly/messy) in the van.The toilet is great for middle-of-the-night bathroom trips, but since it has limited capacity we'd recommend using campground/public toilets if they are available. Longer trips and/or prolific use may result in needing to empty the toilet more frequently. While the BossLady can handle rugged terrain and snowy conditions, please note that she does NOT have 4-wheel drive. Wherever you take her, you are responsible for getting the BossLady out again, so please consider your boondocking choices wisely. For your own safety (and the safety of the van), driving/parking on beaches/sand dunes is NOT allowed.Pets - we strongly recommend that you do not leave your pet unattended in the van. If you do need to leave your pet unattended, it must be crated to prevent accidents/damage (soft crates are great for this).Per Outdoorsy policy, do not attempt to climb on the roof of the van.

Frequently asked questions
Q.
How do the electric, water and sewage hook up work while setting up at the campground?
A.
The van is set up for off-grid camping and does not require external hookups. However, if an electrical hookup is available it can be used to charge the house batteries. Fresh water comes from a 5-gallon jug stored under the sink that can be refilled/replaced as necessary (2 additional 5-gallon jugs are provided with the rental). Gray water from the sink drains into a bucket placed under the van or (if allowed) directly onto the ground. The toilet is self-contained and can be emptied when full.
Q.
Do we need to empty the toilet?
A.
If you use the toilet, you need to empty it prior to returning the van. The process is pretty straightforward and will be demonstrated at pick-up (an instruction manual is also provided in the van). The toilet can be emptied into a regular or pit toilet (i.e. at a campground or rest stop). If you use the toilet heavily, it will likely need to be emptied during your rental as well as prior to return.
Q.
Anything we should know about accessibility?
A.
The van requires a pretty high step to get in and to get on to the bed. While a step stool is provided, the van may not be appropriate for renters with limited mobility. Similarly, changing out the water and/or emptying the toilet requires the ability to lift and carry ~40 lbs (plus some awkward reaching).
Q.
Is this a professional or home van conversion?
A.
The BossLady is a home conversion. That said, it was built by a guy called James Frank who worked for a professional van conversion company and went on to build-out several more vans (check out his projects at https://sprinterstoriesllc.com/). As such, the van is well designed and built, and functions in a very similar fashion to a professionally converted van.
