Our very first campervan conversion, Bertha has a special place in our hearts! Bertha features a sleek white interior with all the luxuries for an island adventure. Compared to the other vans in our fleet, Bertha has 2 main differences: 1) the bed is about 4 inches shorter (6 ft. long exactly), and 2) the electrical setup needs a bit more attention. While the solar panels automatically charge the battery, when the battery depletes you have to manually plug the battery into the cigarette lighter outlet. Not a big deal, but it's one more thing to think about, so we give ya a little discount compared to the other big ladies.Bertha has a full bed (our guests rave about!), large sink with a manual foot pump, fridge, a mobile solar shower with a hand-pump, a ventilation fan for a cooler night, a butane stove (for use outside of the van), and swivel seats with a lagun table for eating inside if it's rainy out. Please note: our photos show an outdoor table that unfortunately had to be removed from the van. What's includedBertha includes: bug screens on the back doors, rain guards on the front windows, fresh linens, towels, kitchenware and cookware (skillets, pots, bowls), coffee grinder and french press, basic spices, utensils, a can opener, wine opener, garlic press, grater, cooking spoons, as well as a portable camping stove (for use outside of the van), and a stepping stool.RecommendationsI have put together a map of spots on the island where you could park overnight - secret spots, campgrounds that you will need to obtain a permit beforehand, and places to park in a pinch. My renters have had no issues with just a little bit of forethought and being mindful of where I park overnight. I give you everything you need to plan in advance (the more you prep, the better your stay will be!).Other things to noteYou are not permitted to take the van off-roading or on any 4x4 roads like to Makalawena Beach, Green Sands Beach, Waipio Valley, or up Mauna Kea (even to the visitor center).

We spent a wonderful week on Big Island Hawaii in "Bertha", March 9 to 16, 2026. Everything in the camper worked perfectly and all necessary items were provided for a self contained adventure. Bri and Conner were great hosts and attentive to all our questions. We chose Hipcamp sites for our tour around the Big Island. Another plus, or minus depending on your attitude, we were there to experience the Kona Low 30 in of rain! Thanks Bri for the cards and games. If everything is perfectly as planned it's a great vacation. If there are some trials to navigate then it's an adventure!

We had the best time on Big Island thanks to Big Bertha and all of Bri’s recommendations!! What a perfect way to explore the island. My only complaint is that I wish we had her longer and had more time to explore. Thanks for such a wonderful experience!

Big Island Bertha was a pleasure to have as our mobile home for our first visit to the Big Island! She drives great, has plenty of amenities and features that made our stay on the island smooth and easy breezy. I think one of the biggest perks is having Bri to answer all your (7 Million in my case) questions about activities and locations. She was endlessly kind when I asked about everything from places to stay, to the highlight activities (Mauna Kea and such) and much more. I really can’t recommend this experience enough, a 5 star and then some rating. Much thanks again to Bri and hope to be back again soon!

Rules and policies
Pets are welcome! If you can find a festival, you are welcome to take her there! No smoking. Cleaning: There is a standard cleaning and sanitation fee of $75. Should the vehicle be dropped off with lots of cleaning to do (grey water and toilet has not been dumped, sand on the ground, and dishes uncleaned) then you will be charged a $150 cleaning fee. Prohibited areas: Due to Bertha not having 4WD, you are not permitted to take her to Makalawena Beach, Green Sands Beach, Waipio Valley, or past the Visitor Center at Mauna Kea. You may hire local services to take you to these locations in a 4x4 vehicle. The van is equipped with a GPS that will alert us if she is in any of these locations, at which point you will be fined $1,000 in addition to the cost of any damage to the vehicle (which there undoubtedly will be, assuming you are even able to get the van back to the road, which you will not).
